Try before you buy skincare
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Try-before-you-buy skincare means testing a smaller, clearly sized amount of a product on your own skin before you spend on the full size.
Full-size skincare is expensive, and a product that works for a reviewer may not work for you. Testing a sample first is the simplest way to avoid shelves of half-used bottles. Here is how to do it well, and where Luòri fits.
Ways to try skincare first
In-store testers let you feel texture, but a single swatch on your hand tells you little about how a product behaves on your face over time.
Free samples with an order are hit or miss: you rarely choose what you get, and they are often one-use sachets.
Paid samples let you choose the exact product and get a usable size. On Luòri you pay a small sample price, the brand ships it, and if you love it you buy the full size from the same brand.
How long to test
Texture, scent and how a product layers: one or two days.
Hydration and comfort: about a week of daily use.
Results such as tone or clarity: often several weeks. A sample helps you rule out irritation and poor fit early, even if full results take longer.
Patch test first
Apply a small amount behind the ear or on the inner arm once or twice a day for a few days. If you see redness, itching or swelling, stop using it.
Introduce one new product at a time so you can tell which product caused a reaction or an improvement.
How Luòri's try-first model works
Each listing shows the sample size, format and price, plus the full-size product it comes from.
Some brands offer a full-size credit: part of what you paid for the sample comes off the full size, applied at checkout when eligible. The listing shows whether a credit exists and how much.
Brands ship directly. Luòri reviews brands and listings, but does not warehouse or ship products.
Who this is not for
This is not medical advice. If you have a skin condition or are using prescription treatments, ask a dermatologist before trying new products.
FAQ
- Where can I try skincare before buying?
- Store testers, free samples with purchases, and paid sample marketplaces such as Luòri, where you choose a specific product in a clearly sized sample and the brand ships it.
- Why pay for a sample instead of getting one free?
- You choose exactly what you want to test, in a size large enough to judge it. Brands can also offer a credit toward the full size.
- How long should I test a new serum?
- At least one to two weeks of daily use to judge comfort and irritation. Visible results can take longer.
